Following an investment of €100 million over the past four years Formigal is a modern, efficient resort, but most importantly for UK skiers and boarders, the Spanish only go there at weekends. Mid-week the wide, well-groomed slopes are relatively empty, making it an ideal destination for beginners and families as well as those experts who want to improve their style. As a purpose-built resort everything at Formigal is well laid out and easily accessible. There are luxury four-star spa hotels, three-star family options as well as value-for-money apartments, but they are all close to the shops, restaurants and bars of Formigal.

Formigal is also more accessible than ever thanks to a new flight to the regional airport at Huesca. The flight is just two hours from London Gatwick with the Spanish company Pyrenair, who have a generous luggage allowance and won't charge you for hidden extras like some low cost airlines. And Huesca is a brand new airport where leaving the plane to boarding the transfer bus will take a matter of minutes.
