Off-Piste Ski & Snowboard Trips

The textbook definition for off piste skiing is - skiing away from the recognized ski runs within the resort boundaries, or skiing outside the boundaries of a resort with a qualified guide.

With ifyouski.com and Mountain Tracks you will do both. You will encounter varying terrain and snow conditions. Of course everyone dreams of soft powder snow but skiers have to learn to live with what nature throws at them and by and large they enjoy it!

Mountain Tracks have 2 types of off piste courses, Performance and Adventure. Performance courses are run by Ski Instructors with the emphasis on instruction and how you ski. Adventure courses are led by Mountain Guides with the emphasis on guiding and where you ski.

Performance Trips
PERFORMANCE courses are led by Ski Instructors

Courses are offered at 3 levels :

 Off-Piste Performance Foundation
 Off-Piste Performance Plus
 Off-Piste Performance Advanced

All Off-Piste Performance courses are led by Ski Instructors.

Where possible courses are run with groups of 10-12 participants and 2 leaders. On the PERFORMANCE courses it works well if the second leader is a Mountain Guide. The mixture of instruction and mountain guiding to be particularly successful and one that appeals both to novice and more advanced off-piste skiers alike. In Mountain Tracks experience the combination is ideal for skiers who want to develop their off-piste ability more but find the idea of spending the whole week with a Mountain Guide as just a little scary!!! Likewise there are lots of advanced skiers

Our Off-Piste Adventure courses are always led by IFMGA Mountain Guides.

On these trips the emphasis is on where, rather than how, you ski. Each day you'll set out with your Guide to ski the best snow and off-piste terrain combined with general coaching, tips and hints and sessions on mountain & avalanche awareness.

Our adventure courses are open to experienced off-piste skiers and snowboarders only. If you are looking for a full week of exhilarating and challenging riding away from the crowded pistes, then these courses are for you.

If you are looking for courses offering more instruction, check out our off-piste performance courses

Courses are offered at 3 levels:

 Off-Piste Adventure Intermediate
 Off-Piste Adventure Advanced
 Off-Piste Adventure Expert

All our Mountain Guides have been handpicked by Mountain Tracks to offer you the best possible “guided mountain adventure” in a safe and rewarding environment

Equipment
Everyone is expected to ski at all times with the three essential items of avalanche safety equipment; transceiver, shovel and probe. If you ski off-piste regularly, we recommend you purchase your own set although guides usually have sets which can be hired.

Skis and other necessary equipment can usually be hired in resort and the guides will be on hand to help you with this.

An essential kit list will also be sent out following confirmation of booking.

Alpine Skills
Adventurous activities in the mountains have their dangers and these can never be removed altogether. However when professionally risk managed they can be minimised.

Mountain Tracks are experts in mountain travel and safety and their fully-qualified Mountain Guides and have achieved the highest level of professional qualification - the prestigious IFMGA/UIAGM carnet. They run a number of courses throughout the year that give participants the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience the necessary skills and techniques for safe mountain adventure and to understand more about the hazards and dangers and how to assess and minimise the risks for themselves.
